Waiting for a verdict in Alabama gambling corruption case

Jurors continue to deliberate in a federal corruption case involving nine defendants, including an Alabama casino owner, lobbyists and state lawmakers.

The high-profile case is the latest to shine a light on the corrupting influence gambling has on lawmakers. Prosecutors allege a casino owner and lobbyists used promises of campaign contributions in an effort to get lawmakers to vote for pro-gambling legislation.

The jury has deliberated for six days. The lengthy deliberations are not unusual for a such a complex and lengthy trial involving nine defendants, and indicate the jury is taking its job seriously.
